nba all star 2009-2010 here is my roster?

Western Conference:

F: Tim Duncan- i think he will be the starter until his career is over…he still manages 20ppg 10rpg even if he is aging

F: Carmelo Anthony- melo will be better player next year …he will improve his all around game …hopefully he did gain motivation from this years playoff series

C: Greg Oden- If he is injury free …and shows some potential next season i think fans will vote him inn… the lost of yao ming for next season… will show who is the best center in the west

G: Kobe Bryant- the new icon of basketball

G: Chris Paul- another great season for cp3 22ppg , 10apg , 2spg my prediction on his stats

reserves:

F: Dirk Nowitski- He is probaly the next best powerfoward after duncan and KG …and the best shooting big man

F: Pau Gasol- one of the main reason why the lakers are a championship team

C: Al Jefferson- He already showed he is on the same level as yao and superman…. i think he will get his respect next season

G: Brandon Roy- if oden is healthy i think roy can lead the trailblazers far in the playoffs

G: Deron Williams- he deserved to be an all star the last two seasons… even with a jazz winning record he still didn’t get a spot as an all star… the only thing i know is he deserves it next year and throughout his career if he keeps playing the way he does

Wild Cards

Kevin Durant- he averages a great amount of points but if he leads the thunders somewhere to a better record he will be an all star

Chauncy Billups- the main reason why the nuggets will be one of the main competitors in the western conference

Other Potential Candidates:

Steve Nash: unless the suns have a really great season next year…i don’t think nash won’t be an all star ..he is also aging and his play did decline last year

Tmac: If he is healthy I think he will have guard position or even a starting position

Lamarcus Albridge- if he improves his rebounding and scoring over 20 ppg and 10rpg he will be an all star

O.J Mayo- he is defintly going to be a candidate in the future but if is averaging over 20 ppg and the grizzlies have a winning record he will have spot next year

Eastern Conference:

G: Dwade- he will have another great season

G: Vince carter- I think he will gain popularity again if he plays well with the Magic…

C: Dwight Howard- he is the beast in the east

F: Lebran james- after kobe retires LBJ will be the new icon of basketball

F: KG- Garnett doesn’t need to do much like he used to I think fans will automatically vote him in…as long as the celtics have a winning record and he is averaging 18ppg 8rpg

Reserves:

G: Devin Harris- I think Harris is one of the most underrated guards in the nba too bad he’s on a sorry ass team

G: Gilbert Areans- agent 0 will return…he’s had enough rehab and will be a scoring machine like he used to be

C: Shaq- He will be back with more power then he had in the suns but not like he used to be when he was with the lakers

F: Chris Bosh- i think this guy is overrated but if he’s scoring over 20 points and over 9 rebounds coaches will vote him in

F: Paul Pierce- if boston is one of the top three teams in the east he will be on the all star list

Wild Cards:

G:Derrick Rose- I think he will only get better every season

F: Josh Smith- it kind of sucks such a great player like josh smith still hasn’t been an all star yet…

Other potential candiates:

Ray Allen- still a great player …his three point shooting is declining..but he still a better shooter then most player right now

Courtney Lee- I see this guy getting the most improved year award next year… plus he has a great all around game ..now that he is in new jersey he will get all the minutes he need to show the nba what he got

Rajon Rondo- I think he is one of the better point guards in the east ..but there still a lot of point guard compeition

Joe Johnson- he has been a consistent all star ever since he went to the hawks..but i think he will need to have a more spectaular season then his three previous years to be an allstar next year

Danny Granger- he has a great all around game but if they pacers don’t go nowhere next year ..i doubt he will get picked again

why do people talk about the nba today being soft then when the players get physical people go crazy?

ray allen not to long ago called the game softer then before http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2010/04/blazers-brandon-roy-could-return-in-playoffs/

and alot of people agree with that statement but when players who like to get physical like the “good old day” do(examples)

the kobe/artest thing last year
the richardson/KG thing this year
the bad flagurant call on varajoa in the celtics series
barea(of the mavs) gets thrown out of game after foul on manu
melo gets a flagurant in jazz series after a reach in
dirk got fouled twice in game 6

now all these situations were physical basketball(with exception of KG/richardson) so why do people complain about the game being “soft” then over react when the players do get physical
the 100+ account troll is calling me LAME wow now i have seen it all

also i blocked that kobe bryant said hiiiiii account after i saw you added me as one of your contacts and i know what happend to jamacin man so dont attack me any longer(that means get rid of that “allen iverson no rings” account)

“Softer” doesn’t refer to the players, but what the players can do.

There once was a time in basketball not to long ago, where players such as Stephen Curry wouldn’t be able to produce.

One of the largest rule changes that lead to the “softening” of the game, was the hand checking rule. You always hear coaches today preaching, player defense with you feet, not your hands, but back then it was the other way around. Small hand checks can help keep you on balance while keeping the offensive player off balance, essentially making defense much stronger. Referee’s used to ref Basketball much like Hockey, where you could go several minutes between whistles, but not referee’s make up a good portion of the game. Referee’s are just as subject to human nature like the rest of us, and no matter what the NBA tells you, no game will go down completely evenly. I’m not saying the ref will say “I like team A better so I will give them an edge” but rather “I don’t like calling charges” and one team will benefit from that.

Basketball:Is being on the cover of any NBA video game a ‘curse?’?

Here me out for a second. And don’t gimme those simple yes or no answers. Expand upon yourself please. So is being on the cover of any NBA game a curse these days? I’ll give a few examples: KG on the cover of NBA 2k9, this was before the 08 season, but heading into the 09 season and further on, KG had an injury that sidelined him during the season and kept him out of the playoffs, ruining the Celtics chances to win it all. Kobe on the cover of 2k10, heading into the 2010 season, he struggled and also had to face injuries. He also struggled in the Finals and had bad shooting performances. T-Mac on the 07 NBA Live, in the 07 season he got knocked out again in the 1st round by Utah. Arenas on 08 Live and he also got an injury and his numbers dropped. The only really successful cover guys were Shaq in 2k6 and Paul in 2k8. But u get the gist of what I’m saying here. Many players underperformed or didn’t perform at all due to injury. That being said, do u think being a cover guy to an NBA game is a good idea?
None of these answers are really in depth
Ant:U make some great points there

What are you talking about? My boy Iverson been on the cover of the first couple of games and he turned out fine. I think its a just a mere coincidence. I think your just being superstious and overlooking some things. Kevin Garnett is old and is very injury prone, so nothing to do with covers. Again like Kobe very old and injury prone, nothing new here. Chris Paul I have no clue, Arenas is a idiot. LOL. Tracy McGrady was always dunking and throwing his body around, that’s normal. If LeBron is on 2K13 then I would suspect something. Mainly because it has 13 on there and he’s been throwing his body around dunking to.

Rate me on my stats from my 2008 season for baseball and basketball. (Stats are listed)?

I’m a male 13 year old. I like playing baseball and basketball. I play these sports everyday in the summer. And I’m pretty good in both of these sports. Here’s my stats below.

I pitch on a 60ft 6″ mound and I play on the 90 ft bases too.

In baseball: I went 6 for 13 in batting, I struck out 7 times, but I walked a ton that’s why my at bats are low.

Pitching: I throw mid 60′s and I was the middle reliever that would come in after the starter and was sometimes the closer. And I was 1-0 with a 3.01 ERA, gave up 10 hits, and only 2 were hard hit and they were hit in the playoffs, walked only 6 batters in my 2008 season, and I struck out 43 batters, and I’m the next Brad Lidge because I have his flirty slider.

In basketball: I’m 5ft 6″ tall, I’m mostly a guard or a center depends when I playing in the game, but here’s what I did when my teams point guard went down for a month. I came in and was a passing machine, I dished out like 7 a game, scored 6 a game, grabbed like 11 rebounds a game and had 2 steals a game, and blocked 5 a game.

When the point guard was back from injury I played forward and center, I scored about 9 a game, dished out 9 a a game, grabbed 13 rebounds a game, got like 1 steal a game, and blocked the ball like 6 a game.

My final stats for the year was 134 points scored, 134 assists, 198 rebounds, 21 steals, and 91 blocks.

I won the MVP and Most Improved Player in the summer of 2008 at Pennsbury High School Basketball‘s Camp. And the coach told me already I’m going to play for his basketball team in 2010, when I go there for HS.

I already got told I have a chance to be in the MLB or NBA, but if I do get a scholarship to a school I don’t know what sport I should play. I’m either going to be the next Brad Lidge who was perfect for the 2008 season or the next Chris Bosh who gets alot of blocks and points.

If you have any questions email me at jjsuperstar2125@yahoo.com. Thanks for rating. Have a nice day.

With the trade rumors everyone is saying timberwolves would be stupid to let him go. The only reason to keep love in my opinion is because of his age. I think Lakers if they want a championship this year or next should keep Gasol.
For these reasons
1. I think Loves numbers are a bit inflated
2. Gasol is better at the mid range jumper, low post scoring and moves, passing, defense, and basketball iq.
3.In the 2009 NBA Playoffs, Gasol averaged 18.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and two blocks per game while shooting an astonishing 58 percent from the field. In addition, with Andrew Bynum limited due to an injury, Gasol was forced to defend Orlando’s Dwight Howard, who was coming off a series against the Cleveland Cavaliers in which he averaged 25.8 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 65 percent from the field. Gasol held him to 15.8 shooting on 48% from the field. Without Gasol I dont think Lakers would have won in 2009 and 2010
4. Gasol led a mediocre grizzlies team to the playoffs 3 times but loves twolves are still bad.

What do you guys think?
My source is bleachreport for the information
Oh and yeah Gasol had a bad playoffs this year but it is one time. He has been great every other year people overreacted in my opinion.

The Expert answers:

I completely agree with you. Gasol has one bad playoff series and people completely overreact. A lot of people have mentioned this, but Kevin Love’s numbers are way inflated. If the Wolves had any other decent rebounders, he would get no where near 15 rebounds a game.
Gasol does have a better mid range and post game, but give some credit to Love, he has 3 point range. Just thought I’d mention this to keep the argument fair and un-biased.
“Without Gasol I dont think Lakers would have won in 2009 and 2010″ I completely agree with this. Gasol was a major piece in the puzzle for the Lakers. Kobe would not have won 2 more rings if it weren’t for Pau.
You also make a good point about Gasol leading his Grizzles to the playoffs when Love led the Wolves to the worst record in the league.
In my opinion, Gasol is still a top 5 power forward in the league.
Top 5 power forwards in the league currently:
1. Nowitski
2. Pau Gasol
3. Lamarcus Aldridge
4. Zach Randolph
5. Kevin Love

Is this the most exciting the NBA has been since the Jordan era?

As an ardent NBA fan i’ve wondered the answer to: Is this the best, most exciting the NBA has been since the Jordan era?

I’d say the NBA, since mid-way thru the 2007-2008 season, became the best its been in 10yrs. Last year we began to see the emergence of the east after many and i mean many years of non-competitiveness with the west. If u remember, there was a time the west was so competitive and the east so flat, that there were ideas of instituting a playoffs with best season records regardless of the conference. The east for the first time in 7 consecutive years has a better record than the west this year.

There were some great teams in the last 10 yrs- the 3 time champ spurs (one of my favorites cuz of T.D. but really boring to watch), the S.S.O.L Phoenix team, the sacramento kings with webber, the high scoring Mavericks team in the beginning of the decade, and the 3-peat lakers. Honestly, no bias, i cant think of any real good eastern conference teams from the past 10years. I mean u had the pistons who surprised the beefy 2003 lakers in the finals and they did make i think 4 consecutive conference finals after that but i really cant remember much else from the east other than the pistons.

What i’m trying to say/ask is given the current nba and how ultra competitive it is (thankfully in both conferences now)
the quality of all NBA teams combined has driven the NBA to its height (since i’ve been a fan- the consecutive championship Hakeem Olajuwan Rockets had me staying up late at night in 4th grade to watch them with my dad and was the start my NBA “fan-dom”)
since JORDAN WAS THE NBA IN THE 90′S!

Many of us stopped watching b-ball all together after he retired.
But now there is a new savior and face of the NBA who is pulling in a new generation of basketball fans- Lebron “the king” James.
Its not just LBJ who’s holding down the fort, its Kobe n his Lakers, its Wade, its CP3, its those young and exciting new Trailblazers, its Yao Ming and his support from a nation of over 1 billion, its the re-birth of Boston, its the consistency of “the big fundamental”, its the stellar play of Deron Williams, and its the steady growing dominance of Dwight Howard. For many of us its the excitement of summer 2010 and the many possibilities it brings.

Alot has been building up these past 10yrs, alot has changed, i think the volcano has erupted and the NBA is spreading faster than ever. Its likely Basketball will overtake Soccer as the top global sport in maybe 7-8 years from now. And that mere possibility is astonishing, due almost entirely to the NBA and its fast spreading global grip.

All these different scenarios in the NBA today give the NBA fan alot to choose from compared to just 2 years ago when there really wasnt a whole lot on the table. Compared to the Jordan era where one man dominated the whole show and everyone was just an on-looker trying to do their best.

I dont know maybe the NBA is alot more commercial than it was 10yrs ago given its current mega, global popularity, i’d safely assume it is, but now theres actual substance and high quality to the Worlds Greatest Circuit of Professional Basketball.

Basketball has never been better than it is today.

Please give your thoughts and feedback.

Should this High School Girls Basketball apologize for beating another team? Details inside->?

108-3 girls basketball rout raises questions
By Cameron Smith

It’s been called unsportsmanlike. It’s been called ugly. The question now is what whether Christian Heritage (Utah) High, which routed West Ridge (Utah) Academy, 108-3, in a girls basketball game last week, actually did anything wrong by blowing out an overwhelmed opponent.

The stunning scoreline — from a varsity game in which Christian Heritage reportedly never used a full court press — nearly defies belief. As reported in the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune, Christian Heritage scored 28 points per quarter for the first three periods and 24 in the fourth, providing a consistent average of nearly two baskets per minute across the entire game. The Crusaders shut out West Ridge, pictured running on to the court for the team’s game following the rout above, for the first three quarters, and Christian Heritage starter Josi Rydin even racked up a unique triple-double, with exactly 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.

Yet while Christian Heritage is a clear and obvious target for criticism, Crusaders coach Rob McGill has argued that he had little choice. According to ABC 4 News out of Salt Lake City, the program had just nine players available for both the varsity and junior varsity games against West Ridge, leaving the coach with little option when considering whether to pull out his starters early in the game.

And with his starters still in the game, McGill decided it would be more disrespectful to slow the ball down and pass around the perimeter than continuing to run the team’s offense.

“I have been on the other side of this equation,” McGill told ABC 4. “It was very insulting when teams slowed the ball down and just passed it around. That’s why I’d rather have a team play me straight up, and that’s why I played them straight up. Because I didn’t want to taunt them, I didn’t want to embarrass them, I didn’t want them to think we could do whatever we want.”

While Christian Heritage has already apologized for the lopsided scoreline and administrators at West Ridge have said the school harbors no ill will and has moved on from the incident, there are still lingering concerns about what could happen when the teams play again. The two are scheduled to match back up on February 3 for the second half of the schools’ home-and-home league meetings.

Much of that concern comes from McGill’s personal philosophy. The coach said he refuses to force his players to back down just because they have all but assured a victory, citing a desire to promote values that he feels are limited by contemporary culture.

“Too many people in the world right now allow the youth to not be as good as they can be, allow them to be lazy,” said McGill. “Here, I’m giving them an opportunity to live up to the best of their abilities and be proud of what they’re able to accomplish. If that’s what I’m being blamed for, then OK, I accept it.”
That “commitment to excellence” comes at a cost. In this case, it was the ego of teenage girls that was affected by the effective implementation of McGill’s personal philosophy. Given that West Ridge is a school for at-risk youth, those egos in question may be even more fragile than most.

Of course, Christian Heritage is hardly the first school to come under fire for running up a huge scoreline against an overwhelmed opponent. Last year, Yates (Texas) High was roundly criticized for a 170-35 rout during it’s undefeated, 34-0 national title campaign. Like McGill, Yates coach Greg Wise has routinely been attacked for his penchant for pushing his team to score as many points as possible, regardless of the foe, a contention which was raised again this year when an opponent intentionally stopped trying to score just to keep Yates from scoring 100 points.

The Expert answers:

Apologizing, or worse, not blowing out the next team that can’t keep pace, is incredibly counterproductive to the losing opponents. It sends the message that if you can’t hack it, it’s ok, someone will come along and take care of you, someone will take it easy on you. Life doesn’t take it easy on people. Failure and loss to superior opponents are realities. If we don’t teach young people how to deal with these things, what happens when they’re out on their own and forced to deal with them?

There are times and places to consider people’s feelings. Competition is not one.

Why are boys normally better at sports then girls?

I’m not trying to sound sexist with this question but what I mean is the sports boys and girls both play the boys teams look more intense and competitive. For example i do track and the state qualifying time for guys in the 800 is 2min 10 sec, while girls is 2 min 42 sec. or in basketball girls use smaller balls and if you watch one of there games then a boys basketball game you will easily see the girls game is a lot slower pace. I’m not saying all girls are bad a sports because i know there are some girls out there that could easily kick my ass at a sport i just wanna know why on average guys are better.

The Expert answers:

Well both just made big trades but the Raptors are going to be the better of the two. The Nets just gave up their leading scorer Richard Jefferson but still have Vince Carter. VC is getting old and we don’t really know how good Yi Jianlian is going to be. Devin Harris is getting better. However the Raptors are going to be a playoff contender since they now have one of the best back-court in the NBA. Chris Bosh and Jermaine O’Neal. The Raps already made the playoffs last season but with the addition of Jermaine then well they are going to be even better. The Nets are re-building so they are not going to do that good. The only one of the Big Three remaining is VC. They are a young and inexperienced team that hasn’t played together for so long yet. The only “old” person is VC. So the Raptors are going to be better.

How many possible outcomes are there in the NCAA basketball tournament?

Mathematically speaking, how many different possible outcomes are there in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament? There are 64 (65 counting one-play in game) teams arranged in four different brackets. Each bracket starts with 16 teams. I am too lazy to figure out the math. Can someone explain the number of possible outcomes mathematically?

The Expert answers:

A great question at a wonderful time of the year!

First notice that the 64 teams play 63 total games: 32 games in the
first round, 16 in the second round, 8 in the 3rd round, 4 in the
regional finals, 2 in the final four, and then the national
championship game.

32+16+8+4+2+1= 63

Now let’s answer an easier question.

If there were four teams, and they played three games, how many
different ways would there be to fill out a bracket? You can write
them down. There are only eight of them. Where do that eight come
from? Well, there are three games, and you have two possible choices
for each game. Hence, 2^3 = 8 possibilities.

Now back to the real tournament. Since there are 63 games to be
played, and you have two choices at each stage in your bracket, there
are 2^63 different ways to fill out the bracket.

2^63 = 9,223,372,036,854,775,808

That’s more than nine quintillion possibilities.

With using the Boys And Girls Club name your city council might be more interested in this idea being that this is a national organization. Once you have started working with the Boys and Girls Club you should bring propose the idea to your local Parks & Recreation Department or City Council for project funding.
What kind of things should I watch out for when hosting a basketball tournament?

The Expert answers:

That all depends on the kind of tournament you are tryign to hold and what is the reason. If it’s somethign for charity or just for fun, then I would suggest something like this:

1. Make sure you have plenty of water available and snacks.
2. Have teams call their own fouls– you really don’t need refs.
3. If it is a coed tournament, allow the team with the most girls the opportunity to choose if they use a girls or a guys ball.
4. Have a ball for each court, a couple of spares, and a pump handy.
5. Make sure you have an athletic trainer or nurse there with a stacked med kit.
6. Have some sort of timer with a clear buzzer for start and finish.
7. Have baskets for games cleary marked.
8. Have the schedule of play posted everywhere and given to each team.
9. Have volunteers/staff in bright color shirts in visible areas.
10. Have people in a central location with a bright colored shirt visible to the teams when the game is over and they need to report the result of the game.
11. Have a rule for a tie– do both teams get a win or a loss? Do they play sudden death?
12. Have the sign in process organized– if there are a lot of teams, have more than one sign in station.
13. Give out a cool tshirt– try to make it a color, because that’s even cooler.
14. What does the team get that wins?
15. What about the team that loses? It’s always fun to give a prize to them too.
16. If an option- MUSIC!! Not so loud it is distracting, but enough for some background noise.
17. Have towels available to wipe up the floor when people fall.
18. Set a clear age limit– if lots of different kinds consider age/gender brackets.
19. Set clear attitude rules- some people participate in these things and act like they are trying out for the NBA– someone will get hurt.
20. Know how to get to the hospital and have directions available (it wouldn’t hurt to give out a registration folder with different kinds of information in it about the location, just in case).
21. Get a large facility with air conditioning or good fans… Really hot gyms are NO fun– or play outside when it’s nice. (if you do play outside, clearly some of the above will not be necessary).

GOOD LUCK!!!

If it is to get people recruited, etc. Rent some refs.

To advertise, for a charity, fun, etc.:

Papers, Schools (college and high school- you can get the teachers), Churches, Coffee Shops, Gyms, etc. Get sponsored!! Put the name of orgnizations on the back of the shirt that sponsor the event and get some free goodies for the snacks or some moolah for the cause.

For recruitment, etc:

Schools… Clearly.

The Expert answers:

I wouldnt work out tommorow (Sunday) so your not sore. You should practice though..go through your play book and just practice whatever you think you need to. Go to bed early to get a good nights sleep. Also eat pasta the night before. It is better to drink gatorade or powerade before a game and water during a game. Jamming your finger is hard to avoid so nothing you can do about that. Good luck and have fun.

However, while games are being played in the NBA, some of the players show a little basketball near the current score of their real NBA game. It does not show up next to all players whose teams are currently playing, however, so I am not certain what it is trying to indicate.
Wow, good question. I suppose it’s possible, but it doesn’t sound easy. Basketball can go up and down the court faster then a person with a scorecard and a pencil can keep track. Plus baseball and golf are more structured… You have 9 innings in baseball, and 18 holes in golf. Basketball is a lot more wide open.

This story grossly backwards: HS basketball team scores 100-0.?

The attitude is grossly backwards and it’s embarrassing. From this story:

http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=903780

Basically says how the High School team that whooped the other team by 100 points, and the other team not scoring any points, feels sorry that they won by that many points and that the other team scored nothing, and plans to for forfeit. And later explained how they should have let up in the fourth quarter so that the other team could have scored points.
What do you think?? My opinion below:

So this is the “even the second place, last place, and lazy person deserves a large trophy too” attitude. It makes me sick. The second place and last place people WILL -NEVER- LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES to make themselves work harder for the prize with that backward mentality. The team that lost obviously needs to buck up and work extra hard next time, and the team that won deserves their win for their hard work and should be proud. They should not feel ashamed that they played much better. I think the 100-0 point win is onrememberhe history books of the winning HS, to be proud of and remeber their great team work and efforts.
I hate this because these lazy cry babies and shame for winning winners will be leading the country eventually, and this will just make out country worse and worse! I do not call these attitudes quality future leadership skills. I could go on and on… But what a horrific thing it is to be ashamed of your talents and your accomplishments!
I am a dancer, and am I supposed to not practice to get better because I might make another dancer upset that I am better than them, and I wouldn’t want to offend anyone with my how good I am at my talent? I could scream this is so maddening.
What do you think??
Sorry! I don’t know how that part got messed up! In that sentense in my opinion I botched was supposed to read: I think the 100 point win is one to remember for the history books of the winning HS team.

The Expert answers:

In sports, there’s no such thing as “letting up” You play to win, not to say, “oh we’re winning, let’s just stop playing” I was always taught to play till the whistle blows, and to say that beating another team scoreless by 100 points to me would make me feel like I did everything I could to win, not make me feel bad because my team played better. Anyone that says they should feel bad, remorse, or even apologize is in the wrong.

A win is a win, any true athlete knows that you go in with a motivation to do your best, no matter the outcome. To actually scold a team for doing their best is degrading to good sportsmanship in general.

Anyway D-2 schools gives scholarships and D-3 schools don’t…your best chance would to try to find a D-3 school espeacially if you plan to walk on..that would be your best chance since you didnt get any offers comming out of high school…hold on to your dream.

My girlfriend and I recently got engaged and she wants to file a fiancé visa for me but the thing is that I fell out of status when I was playing college basketball in California so does that make it much difficult for us to see each other again and how long would it take?
thanks fred I didn’t recieve anything while living there and I’m already in Europe so how long would it take and how long after getting there do we have to get married?no one asked me a thing when I left and do they need any evidence about us being together or her filing that document is already enough for them

The Expert answers:

You will need to be outside the U.S. To apply for the K-1 visa. You cannot become a K-1 while inside the U.S.

Let her file the I-129f. The approval of the petition does not depend upon your immigration history.

When you apply for the K-1 visa, it’s possible that your previous violation may not mean a thing as the K-1 visa is for someone who plans to live in the U.S., unlike a visitors visa.

Unless ICE or CIS or CBP took some kind of adverse action against you for your violation, it is not likely to stand in the way of approval of your visa application.

EDIT: It’s too late for CIS or an Immigration Judge to rule upon a status violation. If either one had made such a ruling, it would not have been a five year bar. 212(a)(9)(B) does not provide for a 5-year bar.

The Expert answers:

In the 2007 NBA Playoffs, the Golden State Warriors, who barely got into the playoffs on the last game of the regular season and entering the playoffs as the #8 seed, knocked off the Dallas Mavericks, who entered the playoffs as the #1 seed in the Western Conference with an NBA-best 67 wins during the regular season. The Warriors won in 6 games. This was the first ever #8 seed to defeat the #1 seed since the NBA started using a best-of-7 format in the first round. The Warriors actually swept the regular season series from the Mavericks 4-0 which made this a highly anticipated playoff series.

Who is going to be the nba’s mvp(most valuable player)? Will it be steve nash , kobe bryant , or dirk nowitzk

lets see steve nash best point guard who leads his team, steve nash doesnt make himself better he makes his own team better with his incredible assists.Hes been the mvp for the last two years but he wont be mvp this year.

kobe bryant one of the greatest basketball players who ever lived, set nba scoring records and averages about 35+ points in every game, the best canidate for mvp, doesnt everyone agree kobe has earned mvp this year because he takes games over because of the lack of his team,he has proved that he can enter the playoffs and take his team to a game seven against the phoenix suns.kobe is going to be mvp.

last dirk nowitzski hes been playing great but hes no mvp last year he let wades and shaqs team win the nba and he stood standing watching the heat take the nba championchip, hes been playing good early in the year but he is slipping and we havent heard anything about dirks great performances these days.he would probably be tied with steve nash for mvp.

The Expert answers:

Dude, Kobe is 37-38 as a starter. And just making the playoffs is not a big deal in the NBA. In any other sport the Lakers would not be in the playoffs this yr. The majority of teams make the playoffs in the NBA.

I don’t care if Kobe scored 5 trillion points in one game, that’s the only attribute that he has. All of his defensive stats have gone down since Shaq left. Also, his turnovers have gone up, and his Ast to Turnover Ratio has dropped since Shaq left. He’s not making any of the players around him any better. And if you can’t make the players around you better, then what do you have????????

You’re giving Kobe MVP credentials for what he did 4-7 yrs ago. And by the way, the Lakers were 24-7 without Kobe from ’00-’02 (the championship yrs). They were only 13-13 without Shaq during that span. When you become the focal point, it’s a completely different thing. Just ask Penny Hardaway. Stats mean nothing if you can’t make anyone around you better. Who has Kobe made better????????

Would you call me a bad basketball fan because of the following….Am i bandwagon?

I have always been a loyal sports fan that has always rooted for the hometeam. I love all DC area teams and colleges…I have always been a Washington Wizards/Bullets fan all my life. They have only made the playoffs once during my childhood in 1997 when i was 12. Any other year we sucked and i had to go through the Kwame thing. Anyway i moved to Miami in 05. That was the year Shaq got there and Wade was in his 2nd year. I don’t have NBA league pass so i would watch the Heat every night…my whole family did. I didn’t know much about D Wade but now i know everything. He looked like the best player in the league. Every night i was on my feet. I couldn’t get Wizards games and i really wasn’t paying them any mind all the sudden. So even worse the Wizards make the playoffs for the first time since 97 and ACTUALLY WIN A PLAYOFF ROUND!!!! It sucked because i wasn’t apart of it and i was rooting for the heat. So now the Heat and Wizards play in the 2nd round and the Heat win….Anyway long story short i have been a Heat fan since 05 but i moved to Orlando a year ago and the samething is happening all over again. I really don’t like the idea of LeBron playing in Miami so it made it easier for me to make the transition. I watch the Magic every night.

Are NBA fans waking up to the fact that the media is lying to us about Derrick Rose?

Derrick Rose is not an elite player.

Rose has amazing quickness and explosiveness. That’s it. He can’t shoot (about 35% for the playoffs!). He can’t play defense (Jeff Teague is lighting him up!). He turns the ball over way too much (averaging nearly 6 TO’s a game for the playoffs!). He has a low basketball IQ and is an average passer at best.

Rose is a very good player but team defense and an amazing bench are the main reason the Bulls were successful this year. The media knows that the casual NBA fan is not going to click on an article or watch a game for team defense and a deep bench (They already tried that with the Spurs. The ratings when they play are awful). People want to see superstars. So the Barkley’s and the Wilbon’s of the world packaged Rose as a superstar, when he’s simply just a very good player.

How much longer are we going to have to live with this charade? I’m starting to feel bad for the analysts as they have to tip toe around the fact that Rose has only had 2 good games since the playoffs started

The Expert answers:

I gotta agree w/ you Rose is a very good player who will only get better over the next few years but the media has overrated him he isn’t even a true pg, he isnt that good of a passer and he doesn’t really make the players around him better, a perfect example Carlos Boozer’s production, last postseason w/ D-Will he avg nearly 20 ppg n 13 reb this postseason 10 and 9
also he is takin way 2 many shots 35 fg% is not an acceptable stat 4 a mvp, teams this postseason have exposed D-Rose and have given a blueprint on how 2 defend him and he has really hurt chicago by shooting them out games and he must understand teams want him shooting jumpers and especially 3s
You are right Rose is good but has been overrated

How do NBA protests work (contested ref decisions)?

The recent incident with Dallas protesting the results of Game 5 has me wondering how NBA protests work. So Mark Cuban will send a formal protest to the commissioner, then what happens? I’ve never really heard of a game’s result being reversed, specially a playoff game (ok..then again, I don’t watch so much basketball except during playoffs). btw…I’m a HEAT fan, but I don’t want them to win coz of some controversial ref decision.
playoffs! why are all of the NBA games on standard channels but NO NHL ever?

NBA is on every day on standard channels- two games a day often
NHL playoffs is relegated to about 3 minutes per day on espn

ya I guess it is because of viewership?
why is hockey not more popular overall?
is it because anyone can get a ball and bounce it, but it takes much more work to even just learn how to skate, much less play a complex game whil. doing so? (and the gear is much more expensive- basketball requires no gear other than ball and hoop (which are often in city parks-
so is it a class thing? a money thing?
because hockey is harder to understand?

IMHO the sports can be summed up by watching the last two minutes of pro game in each sport:
in hockey we have atheletes working probably harder than any atheletes in any sport in the world- non-stop;
in basketball the game comes to a screeching halt and turns into a boring nonsensical tactical game progressing 2 seconds at a time where penalties are anticipated and used at will;
in hockey, penalties stem from interactions that can have very serious if not fatal results

I mean come on people- why isn’t hockey more popular? why is basketball so popular?

not to dis bball- it is a very tough game- but worthy of TV broadcast inundation and utter dominance?

but at least bball isn’t soccer- a game where they can’t even use a clock right and penalties result in acting worse than a Mexican soap opera
cmon- you’re running and get tripped and land on grass and the player breaks into a pantomime of a scene from Barber of Seville
a hockey player gets a puck shot into their face at 90 mph, gets up, face gushing with blood, gets in a fist fight, and gets pulled away from the conflict wanting more and horking his now dislodged tooth at his opponent’s face, trying to claw away from the ref for more action while being pulled from the ice

does anyone else see some disproportionality here?

(ya ya I disconnected everything but my basic cable to save some dough)

Who’s going to be the NBA champions this season?

I would have to say the Lakers. They have the best player, most talented team, and the best coach. They are a pretty young team so they won’t get worn out at the end of the season. They have size and veteran knowledge. They have two players with 4 rings that know what it takes to get there and a coach with 10 that knows how to take them there. And they already won it last year so that proves that there capable of winning it again.

Boston won’t because they are an old veteran team. They are playing good right now but once we get later on to the season and playoffs they will be worn out with injuries.

Cavs don’t have an impressive starting 5. and they need to stop over relying on Lebron James.

Magic are a great team until you know how to play D against them, then there not that impressive.

Dallas is the same team and same results as always. Playoff worthy but no more than that.

Suns are only as good as to where Steve Nash takes them.

Nuggets have a great chance of going to the finals but they need a better or another big man then Nene. He’s pretty good but when you have Gasol and Bynum in your face than that’s a different story.

Hawks are too young too selfish form of playing basketball. But they do have great talent.

Heat aren’t that good with Dwayne Wade(although they have a winning record), without him they would be one of the worst in the league.

Basketball: LOOK at this serous ownage I just read?

The user “Darth Revan” posted this as a response to a question regarding how MJ is better then Kobe.

It’s pretty long, but it’ll convince even the most stubborn bandwagoner:

“He’s hyped because he’s from LA.

And Jamaican man (the troll) how do you call a 27% (Kobe) career shooter in game winning situations clutch?

Michael Jordan game winning shot attempts was 33 out of 58, which is a 56.9% shooting percentage.

A previous answer:

Tougher generation my A-S-S LMAO! Jordan played in this generation (2001-2003) at 40 years old and scored 40 points! And hand-checking was still allowed by the league in 2003. To think Kobe hit only 40 points in the finals once. Count how many Jordan has. In the 80′s the greatest era of basketball only 5 times that the 60 point mark has been cracked. 3 of them came from Michael Jordan. You say this is a tougher era because there are many good guards? Bring these guards to Jordan’s era and he’ll eat tham all. LMAO!

Fact is, Kobe didn’t get his 35 PPG and 81 points until the NBA lowered their defensive teeth and prohibited the hand-check and paved the way for the defensive three second. As a result “If the refs perceive that a defender is bumping the cutter, or bumping a ball-handler, then they’ll blow their whistles.” as Rod Thorn puts it. As a result, the new rules interpretation helped promote the emergence of a new generation of super stars, from Kobe Bryant scoring his 81 points during a regular season game, to LeBron James, Vince Carter, Gilbert Arenas and Dwyane Wade making big splashes in the playoffs. LMAO.

Did you know that: 82% of Tyreke Evans’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?
75% of Dwyane Wade’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?
71% of Carmelo Anthony’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?
70% of Kevin Durant’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?
68% of LeBron James’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?
68% of Derrick Rose’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?
66% of Kobe Bryant’s points came from inside of 15 feet and free throws combined?

Heck if these guys can get to the line and that near to the basket why can’t Jordan, one of the purest cutters won’t make it? LMAO! Even with the hand-check in tow defenders had a hard time defending Jordan what about now? “It would have been virtually impossible to defend Michael Jordan based on the way the game’s being called right now.” — Joe Dumars

Just because he’s getting a Finals MVP or championship doesnt make Kobe Jordan’s equal in any way, how much more better?

15 seasons, 30,000 points. 14 seasons 25,000 points. Not even close. To think that Jordan had two seasons playing under 20 games at that. 1 time defensive player of the year, Jordan toys with Bryant in every aspect of the game.

Record in games with 30+ shot attempts
Michael Air Jordan: 72-57 (.558)
Kobe Bean Bryant: 46-61 (.368)
Michael Jordan shot his team to wins, Kobe Bryant shoots his team out of wins.

Regular season & Playoffs combined
Games with 12 or more assists
Michael Air Jordan: 32
Kobe Bryant: 19

Regular season & Playoffs combined
Games with 0 assists:
Michael Air Jordan: 7
Kobe Bryant: 57

Regular season & Playoffs combined
Games with at least 15 rebounds:
Michael Air Jordan: 10
Kobe Bryant: 5

Regular season & Playoffs combined
Games with at least 12 rebounds:
Michael Air Jordan: 66
Kobe Bryant: 29

Seasons with at least 200 steals:
Michael Air Jordan: 6
Kobe Bryant: 0

Seasons with at least 100 blocks:
Michael Air Jordan: 2
Kobe Bryant: 0

Seasons with at least 75 blocks:
Michael Air Jordan: 4
Kobe Bryant: 0

And don’t even make talk about FG%. Michael averaged 35 points per game when he won defensive player of the year. The next closest scorer to win it had 27 ppg. Guards rarely receive Defensive Player of the Year. Think about the level of energy it takes to lead the league in scoring, and be the league’s best defender. Jordan was the first player in NBA history to record 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. He performed this feat in back-to-back seasons, making him the only player to achieve it multiple times. Hakeem Olajuwon and Scottie Pippen later achieved 200 steals and 100 blocks in one season. Michael Jordan game winning shot attempts was 33 out of 58, which is a 56.9% shooting percentage, while Kobe has attempted more game winners, and 82 games’s website has a lest strict criteria, according to the facts, Kobe is a 27% career shooter in game winning situations.

Jordan vs. Kobe is not as simple as it seems.”

This is godly. What do you think section?

How’d you rate the team based on:
Individual Talent
-The talent of the specific athlete

Team
-How good the team will be if it were real

Real Life Situations
-The situations of the individuals in reality such as the age (if the player is aging well), potential (a young athlete with an upside) and his contribution to his current team and how he produces. Injuries can be a part of this too.

Statistics
-Stats. Numbers. They don’t lie.

———–
My opinions on my team

Ellis- He is better off as a 2 guard, but his size makes his opponent have the advantage offensively as he is a poor defender. Ellis was great in terms of scoring last year, averaging 25 a game.

Kobe- Best player in the NBA, but he’s aging and might not be the Kobe we saw score 81 points, win 5 championships and lead the Lakers to three straight Finals appearances, two on which the team won.

Pierce- He’s aging, but he still has alot left in the tank. Defending 3 point champion and might make a final appearance in this season’s all-star game. Fresh of a Finals defeat, he and his Celtics will be the hungriest of the East (has a better chance in winning the East with a deep bench that can outperform Miami and Orlando)

Blake G- This year’s rookie of the year, hands down. The most anticipated 1st pick in recent history since LeBron and Duncan. If he is healthy, he’s easily a top 5 power forward in the league and can lead the Clippers to the playoffs if his teammates (specifically Baron Davis and Ryan Gomes) cooperate.

JaVale McGee- Might just be the 2nd most athletic center, next to Dwight Howard. He has a huge potential, and playing with John Wall will make him improve. If he puts up Most Improved Player performances this season, Washington might steal any of the last 2 slots left in the East. (NYK will steal the other one)

8 out of 10, these guys could definately get 5th or 6th in the postseason lots of depth, especially at the 1 and 4, Kobe will score you a lot of points a game, and Javale and Cousins will get you tons of rebounds, and your points can score, and will get you some assists. This team is a very deep talented team.

Do you think it would be wrong to say Michael Jordan was best player who ever played the game?

In my view I think two other guys in NBA history can be put in same category with Michael Jordan as best players who ever played the game which is Wilt Chamberlain and Magic Johnson.

Wilt Chamberlain has more individual records than Michael Jordan even though he played in less playoff games as a result of being on bad teams and NBA playoff format which only had 3 games in 1st round, 5 games in 2nd round, and 7 games in conf finals and nba finals. Wilt Chamberlain no only has NBA records in scoring but in other areas like rebounding and shot blocking. Whereas MJ has only one other record and that was in most steals in half.

Magic Johnson played only 12 full seasons and won 5 championships. Whereas Jordan won one 1 more in 2 more full seasons. Magic Johnson played against tougher competition, teams that Jordan bulls even in their prime would not have been able to beat such as celtics with bird, parish, and mchale, 76ers with darryl dawkins, dr. j,. The only reason why Magic Johnson has not been in discussion with Jordan as best player of the game is because he retired early at 31. I personally think Magic Johnson would have 4 more allstar years if he played 4 more seasons. In 1996 when he came back for half of a season he was able to average over 14 points a game, 6 assists, and 7 rebounds being 30-40 pounds heavier than we he retired and not playing a professional basketball game for over 4 years.

Was Michael Jordan overrated at basketball?

No doubt jordan is a great player however I think they were couple players who were better than him who did not get credit. 1. Magic Johnson he layed 5 less regular seasons than jordan due to early retirement yet he won 5 rings and went to 9 championship. He lost those 4 champs to isaih pistons, dr. j 76ers, and bird celtics. When jordan won 6 rings, magic already retired, and bird and isaih left the game which resulted in their teams being dismantled. 2. I feel that oscar robertson was better than jordan. He averaged a triple double 5 times in the regular season, something that jordan never did even in a playoff series. 3. Wilt chamberlain could be argued as better than jordan, however he did not had a great team around him. Averaging over 20 rebounds a game for his career, averaging 30 points a game, and averaging 50 points in a season, and scoring 100 points in a game. Jordan was also a product of great advertising and an nba league that made calls in his favor.

Do you want to know what I think of the Dallas Mavericks?

Pat Riley first promised it 11 years ago: a Miami Heat victory parade down Biscayne Boulevard. Shaquille O’Neal guaranteed it two summers ago, vowing to add a fourth ring to his big hand in his new city.

And with one tenacious game after another in these NBA finals, Dwyane Wade delivered both.

The Miami Heat are champions for the first time, thanks to two basketball greats who made good on their promises — and the next great one, whose promise seems unlimited.

The man they call “Flash” had 36 points and 10 rebounds in the teeth of a hostile Dallas crowd Tuesday night, capping his magnificent playoffs and the Heat’s sizzling four-game comeback by leading Miami past the Mavericks 95-92.

“It’s one of the best feelings, next to my wife and my son, that I’ve ever had in my life,” Wade said. “I’m going to live it up!”

The Heat roared back from a two-game deficit to win the NBA finals in six. Wade, the obvious finals MVP, cemented his superstardom with a dominant four-game performance capped by four pressure-packed, final-minute free throws in the same building where Miami went down two games to none.

He even missed a pair in the waning seconds, giving Dallas a final shot to tie. But Jason Terry missed an open look for 3, and Wade grabbed the rebound and flung it joyously into the stands as time expired.

Where there’s a Wade, there’s a will. His grace added a fifth ring to Riley’s finger — third-most among NBA coaches — and the first jewelry in Shaq’s collection with no connection to Kobe Bryant.

“The great Pat Riley told me we were going to win today,” said O’Neal, who had nine points and 12 rebounds. “I didn’t have the best game. But D-Wade’s been doing it all year. He’s the best player ever.”

Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points and 15 rebounds for the Mavs, but Dallas couldn’t manage the last basket it needed to topple Wade’s determination. With their crowd booing every call and seething with every missed opportunity, the Mavs missed their own chance for their first title.

A day after the Carolina Hurricanes became first-time champions in the NHL by winning the Stanley Cup, Miami also made history.

The Heat finished the franchise’s 18th season with one of the league’s greatest rallies in a finals, and the last period of Game 6 was appropriately gritty.

Miami nursed a narrow lead, taking an 89-85 advantage with 2:36 left on two jumpers by James Posey. Jerry Stackhouse cut it to a point with a 3-pointer in his first game back from suspension, but after Udonis Haslem and Josh Howard traded jumpers, Wade hit two free throws with 26 seconds left.

Erick Dampier then fumbled a pass on Dallas’ next possession, and Wade fought to get the loose ball. He hit two more free throws with 17.7 seconds to play, but after Howard hit a pair, Wade missed two with 10.3 seconds left.

But Terry missed an open 3-pointer. It was the last of 11 straight misses, and the final disappointment in the Mavs’ otherwise remarkable season.

“We made a lot of progress this year,” said Dallas’ Avery Johnson, the NBA‘s coach of the year. “We aimed high this year, and I told them that a lot of teams have to go through this. This will really hurt this summer. I hope they work out hard, make me a better coach. I’m ready to try it again.”

Miami hung onto the clincher in front of more than 20,000 Dallas fans still furious at every NBA official and commissioner David Stern for the Mavs’ three losses in Miami last week. Owner Mark Cuban stoked the furor with his antics after Game 5, which resulted in a $250,000 fine earlier Tuesday.

But while the Mavs worried about every perceived slight, the Heat focused on fulfilling the promises of Riley and O’Neal.

“I came to Miami because of this young fella right here,” O’Neal said, indicating Wade. “I knew I wanted to make him better.”

Dallas’ fans both booed and cheered the trophy presentation, and Stern was jeered repeatedly.

Cuban stole the finals spotlight earlier in the day, getting socked with the fine for his complaints about the officials and general conspiracy theory. All of Dallas caught the Mavs’ us-against-the-world vibe: Signs supporting Cuban and suggesting a league conspiracy against the Mavs dotted the stands for Game 6, and fans screamed at Stern in his courtside seat.

But the series actually was controlled by Wade, who ascended to the most elite tier of NBA stars. He scored 121 points in three victories in Miami before capping it with one more tenacious win.

Riley wiped away tears while hugging his players, and Miami crowded onto the hastily assembled podium with the excitement of a high-school graduation.

Riley, who won his first ring since 1988, claimed he never considered the possibility Miami wouldn’t finish with four straight wins.

“I packed one suit, one shirt and one tie,” he said before the game. “That’s it.”

Riley tied John Kundla with his fifth title as a head coach. Only Phil Jackson and Red Auerbach have more, with nine apiece.

O’Neal, who fought foul trouble, was held to two of his worst career playoff games in the earlier Dallas debacles, and he endured another extraordinary struggle at the free-throw line in the series. None of it will matter to the Big Champ: He’ll take a special pride in winning his first ring without Bryant.

Their partnership resulted in three titles and four finals trips for the Los Angeles Lakers, but their clashing egos caused a power struggle that led to Shaq’s trade. O’Neal has no such problems with Wade, and their cohesion peaked in Miami’s four finals wins.

Riley, the slick-haired strategist who led the Lakers to four titles in the 1980s, now has vindication from those who criticized his decision to take over the club from coach Stan Van Gundy early in the season.

Leaning on Riley’s savvy in coaching veterans and defense, the Heat rolled through the postseason with surprising force — never even facing a seventh game. Riley now has seven rings, counting his single championships as a player and an assistant coach.

And the Heat’s roster is studded with stars who never won a title. Point guard Gary Payton reached the finals with three teams before finally grabbing the ring, while Alonzo Mourning played through 13 seasons, two retirements and a serious kidney ailment for a championship.

Antoine Walker, Jason Williams, Posey, Haslem — all endured serious career troubles, and now they’re all champions, too.

Baron Davis knew his tender hamstring would limit him, so Stephen Jackson took a huge load off Golden State’s do-everything star.

Davis and Jackson shot the ragtag Warriors right into the second round, capping perhaps the NBA‘s biggest playoff upset with yet one more memorable performance on their home floor.

Davis willed his team on one good leg, shaking off a strained hamstring to score 20 points, Jackson made a franchise playoff-record seven 3-pointers, and Golden State became the first No. 8 seed to capture a best-of-seven playoff series with a 111-86 victory over the NBA-best Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 on Thursday night.

Whoa, Nellie, what a shocker!

“We made NBA history tonight and that’s the best thing about it. We did it as a team,” Davis said. “I’m so proud of my teammates and proud to be a part of this franchise.”

Coach Don Nelson’s emotional bunch of castoffs beat his old organization by holding likely league MVP Dirk Nowitzki to eight points and 2-for-13 shooting, after he saved the Mavs with 30 points in their six-point Game 5 win Tuesday. The Warriors, making their first playoff appearance in 13 years, will open the second round Monday night at either Houston or Utah.

“This is a pretty special place to be right now,” Nelson said.

Jackson — who avoided a suspension for Game 6 after two ejections in the series — hit four 3-pointers during a decisive 24-3 third-quarter run and finished with a playoff career-high 33 points.

“I wanted to be aggressive,” Jackson said. “Baron came out and told me he wasn’t feeling as good as he had in previous games, and he wanted me to carry us. I wanted to stay focused, not worry about calls, not get too emotional, just bring my energy with my play.”

Davis also added 10 rebounds and six assists. He sat down with 2:19 to play, throwing his arms in the air to the fans who chanted “MVP!” When the final buzzer sounded, the Warriors hugged as confetti streamed onto the court.

Andris Biedrins had 12 points and 12 rebounds, not to mention a handful of key hustle plays, Matt Barnes took advantage of his first start of the series with 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and Jason Richardson added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.

“It feels great, that’s the only words I can say,” Richardson said. “I don’t know when I have to pinch myself or wake up from this dream. This is everything I wanted. I wanted this for our fans, for our organization, for ourselves. We work hard and we deserve it.”

Josh Howard scored 20 points and Jerry Stackhouse had 14 of his 20 points in the first quarter for the 67-win Mavericks, who along with volatile owner Mark Cuban had high hopes of going deep in the postseason after their remarkable regular-season showing.

The Warriors became only the third eighth seed to upset the No. 1 and the first since the opening round went from best-of-five to the current format. The Denver Nuggets (1994) and the New York Knicks (1999) are the only other teams to win a series.

After years of failure and its share of unsuccessful personnel moves, Golden State is suddenly as big in the Bay Area as Barry Bonds’ home run chase across the water in San Francisco.

“Baron toughed it out,” Barnes said. “He’s our leader and nothing’s going to stop him right now. We’ve got a lot of talent and a lot of heart and we’re looking to do a lot more damage.”

The Warriors lured Nelson out of retirement to turn around a franchise that hadn’t been to the postseason since he took them there in 1994 during his first stint as coach, dropping former Stanford coach Mike Montgomery in late August after two losing seasons.

Back home, Golden State won again behind its deafening, towel-waving crowd that Mavs coach and former Warrior Avery Johnson described this way: “If you haven’t been to the playoffs in 13 years, your fans are going to be pretty crazy.”

And the “We Believe” mantra that now rocks Oakland — Mickael Pietrus led the team out of the locker room holding one of the bright yellow T-shirts sporting the logo — has even caught the attention of celebrities like rapper Snoop Dogg, popular guitarist Carlos Santana, actors Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson and Kate Hudson, and golfer Fred Couples. They were all in the stands for the clincher — and a few even headed to the celebratory locker room afterward. Ron Artest stopped by to offer his best, too.

“The fans gave us so much energy,” Richardson said. “It felt great that we actually put them away like that. We played great defense tonight.”

Nowitzki missed his first eight shots, bricking consecutive 3-point tries late in the second quarter before hitting a 16-footer for his first basket of the game with 38 seconds left in the period. Dallas trailed 50-48 at the break but couldn’t match the Warriors’ energy in the third. The Mavs went 5:07 without scoring as Golden State turned it into a rout, leading 86-63 going into the final 12 minutes.

“We were there at halftime,” Johnson said. “We were only down two. We just came out and had one of our worst third quarters this year. … This is a very disappointing end to the season.”

The Warriors traded for Jackson in January in an eight-player swap with the Indiana Pacers to pair him with a healthy Davis as this playoff-starved franchise tried — and ultimately succeeded — to end the NBA‘s longest postseason drought.

Johnson, groomed by Nellie to be a head coach, said the Warriors had “10,000 pounds on their right arms up there in Oakland” to close out a series Golden State led 3-1, but 20,677 screaming fans from every corner of Oracle Arena put all the pressure on the cold-shooting Mavs.

The Warriors hadn’t won a best-of-seven series in 31 years, since beating Detroit in a first-round series in 1975-76 — the year after winning their only NBA championship in California. Golden State had lost its last five best-of-sevens and hadn’t won any playoff series since beating San Antonio 3-1 in the first round in 1990-91.

Johnson brought his team back to California immediately after Game 5 so the Mavs could get more comfortable in the Warriors’ raucous confines, while Golden State spent the night in Dallas.

Dallas’ first seven made field goals were 3s, 4-of-6 from Stackhouse in the opening period, and the Mavs were 0-for-14 from 2-point range before Jason Terry’s jumper at the 11:22 mark of the second quarter.

“Great regular season, but a disappointing finish in the playoffs,” Terry said. “We all take fault in our mistakes, but you have to give credit where credit is due. That’s a hot team.”

Barnes earned his first start of the series over Monta Ellis and played through a pulled right hamstring, just like Davis.

The Mavs, who lost in last year’s NBA finals, became the first time to win 65 games and fail to win at least one playoff series. Even worse, it came against Nelson, who spent 10 seasons helping taking Dallas from among the league’s worst teams to one of the best.

“This is not like last year was,” Cuban said. “Losing the finals was really painful. This is just the first round.”

That’s what I think about Dallas.

Do you agree with Shane?

Wow. As I write this, I have just arrived home from Atlanta where we have won our 20th game in a row. I am in disbelief. People have asked me how we have done it and I don’t really have a good answer for them. 20 straight wins ties the record for the second longest winning streak in NBA history with the 1971 Milwaukee Bucks with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. The all-time record for consecutive wins is 33 by the 1972 Los Angeles Lakers. I still can’t believe that we are in this company.

What is even more shocking is that we have gone 8-0 without Yao, who is out for the rest of the season with a broken foot. Losing Yao was a huge blow for us but I am proud of the way we have responded. (By the way, for those who believe that we are a better team without Yao, they are insane!!!!!) Players like Luis Scola, Chuck Hayes, Carl Landry, and Dikembe Mutombo have raised their level of play without our best player playing. I am proud of them. When Yao first was injured, the national media in the United States said that we had little chance to even make the playoffs. This doubt unified our team and inspired us to play at an even higher level.

We may not have the most talented team in the NBA. We probably don’t have the fastest or athletic. We may not have the household names that many other teams have. The one thing that we possess as a team is belief. We believe that if we stay together as a group and give maximum effort every single time that we step on the court, then we will have an opportunity to compete and win the game. Nothing great has ever been accomplished in sports (or in the world for that matter), without an unwavering belief in your teammates and the gameplan. We believe. Despite everyone doubting us, we believe. The result is amazing team basketball, where no one is playing for individual glory, but rather collective team glory. That is the true definition of team!

I am as proud of this streak as any accomplishment I’ve had in basketball. I am proud because of the concentration, discipline, and hard work it has taken to win 20 straight games. It is something that no one will ever be able to take away from our team.

Like I tell my team everyday. Stay humble, stay hungry, and stay together. That has been a great formula for our success.
Cheer us on. Let’s see how many in a row we can win!

Your friend,

Basketball: Top 5 best games of the 2011 playoffs in order?

Mine:
1. Mavericks @ Heat (Game 2 Nba Finals):
That had to be one of the best games I have ever seen in my life. The Heat were up by 15 with 5 minutes left, and the Mavs made one of the greatest comebacks in NBA finals history. And Dirk hit the big 3, then lefty finger roll on Bosh to seal the deal.

2. Thunder @ Grizzlies (Game 4 Semis)
A back and forth triple OT game, nuff said.

3. Mavericks @ Thunder (Game 4 West Finals)
Again, another game where it looked like Dallas was defeated as they were down 11 with around 3 or so minutes left. Out of nowhere Dirk goes on this insane run scoring the final 11pts to send it to OT I believe.

4. Thunder @ Mavericks (Game 1 West Finals):
The best individual performance of the playoffs. Dirk scores 48pts, and took only 15 shots to do it. And he broke Cousy’s record for most points with fewest shots. Anbd broke Pierce’s record for most FT’s without a miss 24/24, and Jordan’s record for most in a quarter 13/13.

5. Grizzlies @ Spurs (Game 5 WCQF)
The Spurs season was on the line and Gary Neal hit the game tying three to send the game to OT and the Spurs won.

The Expert answers:

1) Bill Russell has almost TWICE as many titles (11) as Jordan (6).

2) Jordan was a just a supporting member of his NCAA championship team. When he was the primary focus, he couldn’t get his team past the elite eight, despite being the number one ranked team both times.

3) Bill Russell also won 5 regular season MVP’s. The finals MVP award wasn’t created until 1969. Russells last year in the league. Considering that Russell was the star of the Celtics during his 11 championships, I think its safe to say that he would have won more of those than Jordan.

4) The all-defense team also wasn’t created until 1969, Russells last year (and yes, he did make it). The defensive player of the year started in 1983,and without a doubt, Russell would have won a few of those too. After 1993, Jordan SHOULD NOT have been all-defense. That was solely based on popularity.

5) Jordan all-time Bulls assist leader? Big deal. As Tweety stated, that was solely based on the fact that he played more games as a Bull. Jordan was in the top ten leaders in assists one year. ( in 1989, he was #10 with 8 apg). Don’t confuse him with Magic or Stockton. And don’t forget, what was an assist when Jordan played, was not an assist in the 1960′s and 70′s. So he got credited for assists that he wouldn’t have, had he played back then.

6) In 2003, he was NOT selected to the all-star game by either the fans (who vote for starters), nor the coaches (who vote for reserves). Vince Carter , the elected starter, was pressured by the media to step down so Michael could play.

7) He’s TIED with Wilt for first place in ppg., despite taking many more shots than Chamberlain. Wilt has 6 games in which he scored at least 70 points, Jordan has zero. Wilt scored at leat 50 points 119 times to MJ’s-30. Plus, Wilt had a 100 point game too. When you’re talking scoring, Jordan isn’t even close to Wilt.
This and that player of the year awards are popularity contests, not a dtermining factor of greatness. ESPN’s greatest athlete? He was a one sport athlete, AND HE WASN’T EVEN THE BEST AT THAT. Maybe it had something to do with Nike being a major advertiser with ESPN…hmmmmmm

9) You forgot the 1985 IBM Award. Lol

10) You and ‘jd are IDIOTS!!

_________________________________________

Jordan was the College Player of the Year both years after Worthy retired. He played on teams that were loaded with talent (Perkins, Daugherty, Smith). They were the #1 seed both years, yet under Jordan’s leadership, lost in the sweet sixteen and elite eight. Jordan, the “greatest winner ever” couldn’t even get them into the final four. Some legacy.

Which Celtics player after representing his country won 10 NBA rings as a member of the Celtics as a player?

Which Celtics player after representing his country in the 1950s won 10 NBA rings as a member of the Celtics as a player?
This Celtics player won 10 NBA rings in 11 NBA Finals losing only two playoff series. The first playoff series loss was in 1959 to the Bob Pettit led St. Louis Hawks (now the Atlanta Hawks) in the NBA Finals. The second playoff series loss was in the East Division (now called Eastern Conference) playoffs to the Philadelphia 76ers in 1967 to Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, and Hal Greer.
This Celtics player scored over 15,000 NBA career points.
This Celtics player played in a number of NBA All Star games.
This Celtics player was named to a number of All NBA teams.
This Celtics player averaged over 20 ppg 4 times.
This Celtics player led the Celtics in scoring 3 times including a 25.9 ppg season high.
This Celtics player is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and named one of the Top 50 NBA players in history of the NB
Sam Jones arrival into the NBA was delayed by 2 years as he represented the U.S. in the 1950s in the U.S. Army for 2 years after being drafted by the NBA and the U.S. Army. Sam Jones of the Celtics and SS Tony Kubek of baseball’s N.Y. Yankees in the early 1960s are 2 players who were impacted by this Cold War draft in peacetime. Kubek joined the Army reserve and was called to active duty in the 1962 season during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Willie Mays missed 2 full years of his prime in his 20s not playing Major League Baseball for the N.Y. Giants during the Korean War in 1952 and 1953 in the Army. Ted Williams missed a combined 5 seasons for that war too plus World War II all in his prime after hitting .401 for Boston in 1941 before WWII. Without the military service, Bonds may have been chasing Mays or Williams for the HR record as Mays, Bonds god father, hit 660 HR missing 2 seasons and Williams hit 521 HR missing 5 seasons of his prime(1943-1945;1952,1953) as a Marine pilot.
Sam Jones is probably the most widely known name in NBA basketball history whose NBA success such as 10 NBA rings and many All Star games and four NBA regular seasons where he averaged over 20 ppg all which led to him being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and being named as one of the 50 greatest NBA players in NBA history.

It is hard to argue with 10 NBA rings and a number of 20 ppg plus regular seasons to prove Sam Jones’ quiet NBA success.
As far as the first answer about the “dad…” which really was not about Sam Jones, Jr. of NBA fame.

Your Opinion on Judging NBA Players.?

The Media(ESPN and TNT) makes it appear that 1 player can win a championship. An average NBA team scores between 95-97 points. One of the best seasons we’ve seen in the modern era of basketball scoring wise was Kobe’s 35 ppg 5 apg year. So at most, assuming all the assists were on 3-point shots at most he could contribute 50ppg. Last time I checked 50 < 95.

So no matter how great you play, you can't beat a playoff team by yourself, especially in a 7-game series. Certain players have never been on truly championship caliber teams i.e. (Dirk, Yao, Kidd, Nash, AI, Melo,Bosh,Vince, TMAC), and other players aren't given enough respect because they don't have as many championships as player X. (Like Kobe/LeBron/Wade when they are compared to MJ)

So my question is, do you think that it is fair to judge individual NBA players on their team success when no player can beat a playoff team by themselves, especially in a 7-game series?
Sorry but even with the Kobe example, adding his 5 rebounds could at most at 15 pts which equals 75. And that inspire teammates stuff is bs, players either play hard or don’t

4. John Havlicek
Havlicek was one of the most all-around players at both ends of the court. He averaged 20.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists, along with 1.2 steals. He also shot 44 percent from the field and 81.5 percent from the free throw line. He also ranks 10th all time in the NBA, with 26,395 career points.

He was selected to 13 All Star teams and to the All NBA team 11 times, with seven of the selections on the second team and four on the first team.

He was also selected to the All NBA Defense team eight times, with five of the selections on the first team. He also helped the Celtics win eight championships and finally he won the 1974 Finals MVP, as he led the Celtics over the Kareem-led Bucks in seven games.

5. Rick Barry
Barry is one of the most underrated players of all time, as he averaged an amazing 23.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, five assists, and two steals per game, as he was one of the most all-around players ever. He also shot a solid 45 percent from the field and an unbelievable 90 percent from the free-throw line.

Barry was also selected to seven All Star teams and to the All NBA team five times, with four of them on the first team. He also won the 1966 Rookie of the Year Award. He also won a scoring title, as he averaged 35.6 points in the 1966-1967 season.

He also led the Golden State Warriors to a championship in the 1974-1975 season. He won the Finals MVP in the 1975 Finals as his Warriors swept the Bullets.

After reading all that how is Pippen better then any of those guys? They all were better scorers then Pippen and can they all can do multiple things on the court. Pippen doesn’t come close to a Top 5 Forward or Top 5 Small Forward.

BTW, here is some more that better then Pippen.

1. Lebron James

2. Dominique Wilkins
1X Scoring Champ, has had mulitple seasons averaging 20+ ppg, and “ALWAYS” schooled Pippen when Pippen was guarding him.

3. James Worthy
1X Finals MVP (while overshadowing Magic & Kareem)
3. James Worthy
Jake B,
you’re seriouly “OVERRATING” Pippen. Pippen only averaged 20+ ppg a total of 4 times and his career average is 16.1ppg. Where do you get 20ppg from? …..and he’s only been in 7 all-star games. Where do you get 17 straight?

The Expert answers:

For once, you’re right.

Scottie Pippen is not a top 5 forward

______

Scal!!! (above) …you can’t be serious about saying Pippen was better than Baylor. Just because Pippen was a member of 6 championship teams in a watered-down league doesn’t make him better.

Baylor constantly had to go up against a team of HOFer’s, the Celtics, who he once torched for 61 points in an NBA finals game (still a record).

He was a better scorer and better rebounder than Pippen was as well. Baylor was the Michael Jordan of the 1960′s. Unfortunately, ESPN was not around to hype him like they did in the 90′s.

IMO, Baylor is the #2 forward of all time, right behind Bird.
