Lisa asks…
Where can I get a small basketball net for a pool hoop?
I have a pool hoop and it has no net. It is smaller than a standard size net. Where can I get one?

The Expert answers:
Walmart or target
or try a sports store or a pool store. You may have to order it.

Susan asks…
How do you fill in a plastic hole basketball hoop?
Hi. I bought a Basketball Hoop with a plastic base in which water is pumped in for a pool. While moving the unit around, i noticed a hole less than a penny’s size big, on the underbelly of the unit, on the water tank.
What should i do to fill this hole in?
Is it even possible to fill this hole in?
Whatever it is, it needs to be waterproof, and able to sustain the NJ summer.
Thank you.

The Expert answers:
I’d try a pool patch kit, I’m not sure if it will hold, but it’s worth a try. A tire patch may even work depending on the type of plastic.

Donna asks…
im fat. i need to be skinny any help?
well im 13 years old and im 147 lbs. i ride my bike everyday to school, i have a trademill, i have a basketball hoop, a pool, a body ball, and some wieghts my brother gave me. The Expert answers:
Go play sports. You’re too young to lift weights.

Sandra asks…
Is this joke offensive, just dumb, or kind of funny?
A group of fifth graders are talking about their christmas presents after they return to school after christmas break. One kid says, “I got a bike”. Another kid says “I got some clothes and a playstation”. And one of the other kids says “I got $100 from my grandma. The last kid says “I got a bike, a playstation, clothes, $500, a TV, a DVD player, a basketball hoop, a pool table, and all kinds of action figures, I feel bad for you guys for not getting as much stuff as me.” Then, one of the other kids says “Yeah, but at least we don’t have cancer.”

The Expert answers:
HA HA HA HA a kid got a bike HA HA HA HA HA HA

Mandy asks…
what other sport should i try?
I’m on a swim team and practice 5 days a week (M-T 6:30 to 8:00 pm and Sa 9:00 to 10:30 am) , but only have to be there 3 practices. I’m thinking about the volleyball team at school next year, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to go from volley ball practice straight to the pool 2 days a week because of how long each practice is. Any ideas of a sport I could/should try? Even if it’s just for summer…
BTW, I want to be on a team where I can practice there but also at home and I don’t have anything special like a basketball hoop or pool.

The Expert answers:
Field hockey…you can join a summer league or camp if you want to. All you need is a stick and a ball.

Helen asks…
If you were a guest in someone’s home would you permit your child to behave like this & take no responsibility?
* This is a really long question, and I’m sorry for the length. If you don’t want to read it, then don’t, but please don’t answer just to complain about how long it is. Thanks*
My stepmother’s older sister and her 10-year-old nephew are staying at our house while their home is completing an extensive renovation, and he perpetually throws tantrums, invades my personal space, and destroys my things without any remorse or accountability. He does have Asperger’s, a mild form of autism, so I realize that to an extent he has a harder time controlling his impulses and behavior, but he attends a school for gifted children and has the intelligence and ability to follow instructions. The problem is that he has such a horrendous, self-harming fit whenever he is corrected or doesn’t get what he wants that his mom just lets him get away with ANYTHING. They stayed with us last spring when the renovations had first begun, and he drove me insane on a daily basis. We have a guest house that they were supposed to stay in, but he just felt at liberty to roam around the entire house, snooping in rooms and breaking things. We have a lovely backyard with a pool and basketball hoop, but instead he’d dribble a freaking basketball up and down the hallway outside of my room until I wanted to puncture my ear drums. I would plead with him to go elsewhere, but that never worked. I tried to bribe him with candy and his mom went mental on me for it. But she does nothing to modify the behavior. And worst of all, she acted like she was the one doing ME a favor because somehow she got the idea that my dad had asked her to stay there with us. That wasn’t really the case. It’s true that my stepmom had been going through a difficult pregnancy then and I’d be in treatment for a health problem and so my dad had wanted an extra adult in the house while he was gone. BUT the real reason was that her kid needs everything to be in perfect order and that wasn’t possible with the construction going on.
This time, it’s totally just us doing her a favor. He still dribbles the basketball in the hall, he perpetually
barges into my room, and he shows no consideration for us or anything in our house. He has snooped through my room several times before and just barged in there and made himself comfortable. I’ve walked in the room to find him there on my computer several times. Yesterday he went into the room I use as an art studio and destroyed some of my work and vandalized the furniture. He painted directly onto an expensive watercolor station and messed up a taboret and easel. That’s like $2000+ worth of art furniture. Plus he f’d up a painting I’ve been working on for 3 weeks.
If I had left my belongings out in a communal space and he had ruined them, then that would be partly my fault. But this was my room that he trespassed in to begin with. I did freak out a little when I saw the studio, and I said somethings I shouldn’t have, but I was frustrated because his mom just kept defending him and made no apologies. She didn’t hold him accountable for anything! She just trivialized the damage. Instead of being on my side, my dad just got mad at me for not handling things as well as he thinks I should have, and has not yet done anything to help me. He has recognized that the furniture was wrecked, and knows how much it cost. He knows how much work I’ve put into my art. Whereas, my step-aunt (who btw, is actually my stepmom’s much older half-sister that she didn’t even grow up with!) will get all defensive if a single comment is made about her kid or he is in any way slighted, my dad won’t stand up for me. He said it’s not his responsibility to tell another parent what to do, but I disagree because it’s HIS house and the mother is doing nothing. It doesn’t matter what this kid does, it only matters how I react to it in his opinion. He doesn’t want to hear about how the kid is driving me insane. He acknowledges that the kid is totally out of line and has no regard for the household, but won’t do anything about it and will yell at me if I try to do anything. I would have been drawn and quartered if I’d ever behaved like this kid. Instead, he is totally indulged. I’m not trying to say she’s an awful mother because her two older kids are my age and totally awesome. This is only one that acts like that. Because of his Asperger’s and the divorce he can just do whatever. My parents are divorced too and I had freaking cancer and yet I was still expected to act in a civilized manner, so I don’t get her at all. I’m not saying she needs to be harsh, but she should at least explain why what he did was wrong and take away a privilege or something. She shouldn’t excuse everything he does and make him exempt from all rules and common decency. She should take responsibility for the financial damages he causes.
If your child had zero regard for the rules of the house he was a guest in wouldn’t you be embarrassed? If he invaded their privacy and used things without permission wouldn’t you make him stop? If he broke things wouldn’t you pay for the repair? She’s not poor by any means. And on the flip side, if you had a house guest whose child was a total terror and causing problems for your own child, wouldn’t you do something? Would you really just let this kid get away with anything in your own home? Seriously.
Okay, I’m sorry about this vent.
Flo – I am not intending to cause offense or downplay Asperger’s. I was told that it was a form of autism, and believed it without doing additional research to verify that was accurate. I apologize for my mistake.
As you said, each case varies. This child is 10 years old, almost 11, and attends a very exclusive private school where a professionally administered IQ test and certain score was required for admission. His mom brags about how smart he is all the time. He goes to the same school as my little sister (who is my mom and stepdad’s kid, and so she doesn’t have to deal with him in her house), and she said that he is not given free reign there. He is expected to comply with the rules, and so he does. With his mom, there are no such expectations, so he does whatever the frick he wants.
Hey Mama – it wasn’t my choice to let him stay here either time. My stepmom agreed to let them stay.
Well, I know candy doesn’t normally modify behavior, but I tried a dozen other things, and the only thing he seemed to be interested in was this box of candy a friend gave me.
Flo – There is no need to name-call me when you are not here to witness the situation for yourself. As I said above, he does behave in school when expectations are made clear to him, and therefore could be expected to comply with some here.
Would you really like if after going through chemo you had a child dribbling a basketball outside of your bedroom for hours on end nonstop? He did that every day last spring when
they stayed here. I finally lulled him outside to play, and his mother got annoyed because she was working inside the guest house and the dribbling drove her insane. And SHE is the one
who uses his Apsperger’s and the divorce as a justification for every poor behavior.
He still dribbles the ball for hours inside.
Would you really not care if someone destroyed something you’d been working on for weeks? I sell my art. It’s time and money wasted. Would you not care if someone wrecked supplies and furniture?
You are the one coming across in your answer as being incapable of viewing things from a perspective beyond your own.
I’m not the brat in my home situation or in this Q&A.
It has been suggested that she stay in a hotel. But why stay in a hotel when you can mooch off your family and stay in a lovely guest house with a pool and yard for free?
And Flo — I DO understand that IQ doesn’t equate to empathy or social behavior. I’m sorry, I wrote the comment above before reading your 2nd edit. Please calm down.
Like I’ve repeated numerous times above, he does function quite well at school. He attends parties, he plays soccer, he was in the school play. If he really was that incapable of functioning in social atmospheres he wouldn’t have demonstrated capability at functioning in social atmospheres! I think his mother is totally failing him by letting him do whatever he wants at home. She will put him out of her sight and let him have free reign.
Like I said, the problem is that he is given no boundaries whatsoever here, whereas in the other situations he is.
You’re judging this based on your own partial perspective without considering that the situations between this kid and your son may not be not the same.
Animefan – yes, the rooms do have locks, but you can only lock them from the inside while you’re in them. He went into the rooms while I wasn’t home.
I am changing the door knobs to my art studio and room this weekend to the kind where you have to have a key.
I do stay at my mom’s as much as possible. My dad is the one who wants me to stay here, and this is where my dog lives.
Sarah – excellent point.
I have a professional-grade paper cutter, glue gun and other things that he could have seriously harmed himself with.
To : ) ~ I have tried to engage him. I have included him on outings and done my best. I have not provoked any of the behavior. The only thing I did wrong was yell and let emotions get the best of me when I saw that my art studio was wrecked. I did apologize to the mother and him. They have not apologized to me at all.
Ben W – thank you for all the great suggestions. : )
A backdoor to the house is kept open during the day, so they can get in. We have a gate around the property so nobody else can just wander in the yard or into the houses.
I really, really hope they move out soon. My dad is just going along with it because of things going on with my stepmom, and her wanting her sister there. If lucas stayed in the area where he is supposed to be, this would be a non-issue. I would love to lock the backdoor and keep them out, but I’m not allowed to. It’s beyond frustrating.

The Expert answers:
Is there any way that you can move in with your mother and avoid visiting your father as long as your step-mother’s sister & child live at your Dad’s house?
I don’t know anything about Asberger’s so I can’t offer an opinion on the kid’s behavior. If I were you, however, I’d try to remove myself from the situation.

Nancy asks…
Outdoor Play Structures Sets or Kits for School-Aged Kids?
Hello,
I am opening up a daycare for School Aged Children ages 6-10, and we are trying to decide some outdoor play structures for them. Some ideas we have is a blow-up pool and basketball hoop. However, we are trying to determine what other out-door play structure-type kits and sets are available.
We thought about swing-sets but that may be better for “younger” children. Children ages 6-10 may not want to play with a swing set.
Can anyone share any ideas for outdoor play structures for children ages 6-10?
Thanks alot in advance……

The Expert answers:
Well I;m a 12 year old kid and I love playing on the playground and swings! Make an adveredge sized play ground and a swing set for the little ones, and the bigger ones.

i made the basketball team for my school, and i wanted to buy basketball shoes. me and my dad went to 3 different stores and all we could find was men basketball shoes. would it be weird if i just bought black men basketball shoes? are there even such a thing as women basketball shoes???

The Expert answers:
There are women basketball shoes.
You can find them in athlete stores like Footlocker, Champs, Nike etc.
It doesn’t matter if you wear men’s basketball shoes as long as they fit well.

Donna asks…
what are the best basketball shoes for men right now?

The Expert answers:
There are many different types of basketball shoes for different players. I would say if you’re a power player, then the Nike LeBron 8 PS and the Adidas SuperBeast is probably the best for you. For point guards, I would reccomend Adizero Rose or the Reebok Zig Slash. For Shooting guards, probably the Kobe VI. The Adidas Climacool 360 low is also a good choice.
They sell them here at Footlocker

Basketball shoes?
Does anyone have the shoe, Nike Men‘s Air Zoom Huarache Elite II TB? I am planning to get these pair, and I was wondering if it was right for a point/ shooting guard. Do they have good traction? Do they last long…please help me.

The Expert answers:
I got the Nike Men’s Air Zoom Huarache Elite II TB and Air jordans, but they don’t make a different in playing. But the Elite is really comfortable, while im playing. Plus you can go out in style dude! Shoes are shoes and doesn’t matter what position you play, they are still just shoes. But yea they do have good traction and traction last for a long time if you only play with them just for basketball.

Michael asks…
Does any one have/or know where to get a pair of Lebron 20-5-5 basketball shoes in size 14 men’s?

What Are Good Shoes For Basketball for a 6th Grader?
okay….i want to play basketball even though i already do hahaha…anyway i always wear nike dunks whenever i play hoops. but is there some other good shoes that is nike, bring in some whoa filthy shoes man! and make me look good on the court and provide good skills?

The Expert answers:
Shoes don’t make you any more skillful. You want to look good on the court? Sink the rock. There is nothing that will make you look better. Practice your ball handling and shooting if you want the attention. Good fundamental basketball was around before $100.00 Nike’s

Lisa asks…
Can women wear men’s basketball shoes?
I heard it’s bad for your feet if you do. Can someone clarify?

The Expert answers:
It really depends on your foot because every foot is different. You can wear mens shoes but you have to go down 1 and a half to 2 sizes. For instance if u wear a size 9.5 in womens you would wear between a size 7.5 to a size 8. Also the width would be a factor as well. Width runs in letter sizes (2a width, b width, d, 2e, 4e). Womens shoes start at a size B width whereas mens start at a size D so if u go with a men’s shoe then it will be a little bit wider than a women’s shoe. Basically the only difference between a man’s shoe and a woman’s shoe is gonna be width.
I would recommend that you go to a shoe store where the sales people know what they are talking about and just try some on. One last quick tip if your foot does run narrow then you might try Nike because they tend to run narrow.

Donald asks…
What kind of shoes do you use for lifting?
Hello fellow trainers,
What kind of shoes do you wear at the gym? I am not talking running, but weight training (squats, cleans and deadlifts). I use my basketball shoes (Nike Men‘s Shox Flight Lifted) and it works out OK.
Should I go for something that has a thinner sole?

The Expert answers:
I think what you’re using is okay, but a thinner sole would make it easier on your feet. Also I like to use shoes with good ankle support.

LMFAO all the answers are so funny…

The Expert answers:
Maybe they would have problems with these teams these are teams in SOCAL only
Mater Dei,
Cervite,
Ocean View,
and many others that i cant think of right now the first 2 are private schools that ALLWAYS have good players and are good @ All sports and the third is a school that i live half a mile away from and went 2 state last year and want it even more this year they ended up losing in the state championchip game last year and have players that can match up with Pau and could double team Lebron the whole game, also some of my friends are on that team XD. Robert asks…
Why does California have so many basketball teams?
Everyone in California is a Lakers fan, so why don’t teams like the Clippers, Warriors (well, Oakland supports them well), and the Kings all move somewhere else?
Cities such as Seattle, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Baltimore, etc could use teams. Wouldn’t those become better markets for the teams?
They have 5 baseball teams:
padres
dodgers
angels
athletics
giants

The Expert answers:
Well, the population in California is massive, and the heavily populated cities like Los Angelos, I guess, should recieve more teams for better marketing. And no, I believe they specifically chose to put multiple teams in California for better marketing instead of putting these teams in other states (like you mentioned)
Simple fact :
More sports fans/people = Better marketing

Sandra asks…
Has anyone ever noticed that the Pacific division in basketball is composed of all California teams?
oops, i forgot about the Suns, duh!!! Cannot forgot about them. ![]()

Los Angeles Lakers
Los Angeles Clippers
Sacremento Kings
Golden State Warriors
Phoenix Suns
Yea except for Phoenix

I live in San Leandro, California and have been coaching youth basketball for the past 3 years. Looking to start a team in the 16 yr old range. I’ve been on the AAU website but hoping to get in contact with a former or current AAU basketball coach.

The Expert answers:
The best thing to do is what you said. Get in contact with the AAU administration. They will help you set one up if there is a need for one. If there are many other teams around there may not be a need. Also, you will have to have some ideas for a sponsor. If you gather up as much information and are prepared ahead of time when you talk to the adminstrators the process will go a lot smoother and they will be more willing to work with you. Some of the people at the AAU places can be a little hard to work with so make sure you show them that you are committed to this.

Sandy asks…
where can i download the new better basketball ball handling dvd?
i have the old version, and i think this new dvd is more special because it’s more updated and has workouts.

The Expert answers:
YouTube has all sorts of videos about ball handling

Chris asks…
How hard/soft a Basketball ball should be?
How hard/soft a Basketball ball should be?
Pls. help me…

The Expert answers:
Hold the ball in front of your face so your arm in an L shape drop the ball and it should bounce to your elbow

Richard asks…
What are some exercises to improve your basketball ball handling?

The Expert answers:
There are multiple ways to improve your handling, but for me, i just practice driving to the hoop, crossovers, behind the back, through the legs, and etc. Keep doing it a considerable amount of times and eventually you’ll get the hang of things, but always remember to keep your head up

Jenny asks…
How do you make a basketball (the ball)?
How do you make a basketball the kind you play with not the game the ball you play with

The Expert answers:
Too difficult to make it by yourself. You can find the specifications (size, weight, etc) on the internet and try to make it from a bulls stomach (or other guts) and leather. But if you manage internet, i am sure you can buy a basket ball in a shop.

James asks…
Why does the tennis ball go so much higher when helped by the basketball?
I’m an 8th grader who is studying Energy in Physical Science. In class, we did an experiment. If you drop a tennis ball and a basketball together (tennis ball on top), the tennis ball will jump really high. Why??? Please help, it’s due TOMORROW.

The Expert answers:
Check out this website, it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Carol asks…
When I shoot why can’t I get the basketball ball to spin?
I have a problem spinning the ball when i shoot. I flick my hands but it barley spins. any tip?

The Expert answers:
Don’t palm the ball when you shoot…im sure you already know this
But like another person commented on here, it really depends on your arm/ leg strength, and where you’re shooting it from.
If you’re shooting the ball from farther out…near 3pt line…you need to have strong muscles in order to get that spin on it. So start out more on the inside with practicing good spin, then slowly move outside near the 3pt line…maybe build some more muscles while you’re at it (:
I have this same problem, everytime I shoot from the 3, it’s most likely an airball because there’s not enough strength in my shot. I get great spin and form, but not enough strength.

Steven asks…
In basketball, could the ball go in the basket right after the buzzer and still count?
In basketball what if it was the land second of the quarter and a player shoots the ball, right after the ball leaves his hands the buzzer goes off right when the ball is in the air and the ball goes in the basket. Would it still count if the ball goes in after the buzzer or does the ball have to go in the basket BEFORE the buzzer?

The Expert answers:
The basket counts aslong as the ball was out of the players hands before time expires otherwise it doesn’t count. Those shots are called buzzer beaters.

Daniel asks…
Does anyone know a basketball ball handling calendar/training program for free?
I am looking for some drills to do everyday that will help me with my basketball ball handling. Something like a calendar – different things I can do for each day of the week and that I can continue for months and months.

The Expert answers:
Are you talking about a personal trainer? I don’t know if I can fully help you but what I used to do to increase my dribbling is bounce a tennis ball. If you have two then bounce them at the same time, then do it without looking, then while walking, then while jogging. I usually do this when my body is sore from other practices in earlier days of the week. I don’t know if there are enough dribble exercises to keep you busy for a whole week. Check this guy out too, it pretty tough but start slow if you have to.

Chris asks…
What is the top colleges in georgia basketball wise and study wise.?

The Expert answers:
Definitely Georgia Tech.
That one’s the best for basketball and not bad for academics either
University of Georgia is pretty good too.
But i think Georgia Tech is the best

Susan asks…
How i can i play basketball for a college after graduating high school in Georgia?
Im 18 already finished with high school. The high school i went to was terrible in basketball, but I want to play for any colleges in georgia. Is there any type of programs/basketball camps available in ga where you can have college scouts look at you?

The Expert answers:
I am not an expert, but try to get a high light reel together and send it to some schools. You might have to be a walk on and just show hustle and good talent to your coach. Many players made it that way, check out Scottie Pippen for instance. He was a towel boy if I am not mistaken. Sometimes dedication and hard work are everything.

Carol asks…
College basketball today: Georgia or South Carolina?
The Dogs routed USC last time out, but this game is in Columbia and the Gamecocks have playd well against top 25 teams recently. What do you think?

The Expert answers:
LETS GO GEORGIA!

George asks…
What is bonus in basketball at competitive levels?
Competitive levels: Georgia high school basketball, college, pros)
How many fouls in a quarter or half makes bonus and double bonus?
On non-shooting fouls if you make first one do you get second shot
On shooting foul on 2-point shot do you get a third foul shot if first 2 are made?
And which way does the home team start out going in 1st quarter of half and when are changes made?
BTW mens basketball

The Expert answers:
Bonus is usually about 5, 6, or 7 fouls. Double bonus is at 10 fouls. On non-shooting fouls in the bonus you get a one and one. That means if you make the first shot you get to attempt a second if you miss it the ball is live and you don’t get a second shot. In the double bonus you get 2 shots know matter what. Shooting fouls are always 2 shots unless it was a three point shot then you get 3 foul shots. If the player was fouled and made the shot then they get a and one which means that they get one shot. Changes either happen every quarter, every half, or teams go the same way for the 1st and 4th and same way for the 2nd and 3rd.
Hope this helps.

Michael asks…
In basketball, what would be your guess for the finals point result of Georgia Tech vs. the NBA dream team?
Lets say the GT college basketball team played against the NBA dream team, consisting of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan etc. what would be your best guess for the final point result of this hypothetical game? Please also state your competency within the general knowledge in the field of professional basketball.
Standard game length of a NBA game.
Replace “NBA dream team” by “the best of the NBA”

The Expert answers:
Team USA 2008′s biggest challenge was defending in the post where they were pretty thin, and Tech has some trees with Gani Lawal, Zach Peacock and Alade Aminu coming of age at the same time. Ra’Sean Dickey would’ve helped their competitiveness, too, but I see he got some money to leave early for Europe. They still have enough depth to deal with foul trouble with LeBron, Melo, Wade and CP3′s proficiency for driving to the lane for buckets.
They don’t have a lot of supremely talented, experienced players in the backcourt, and that’s where the Jackets would be eaten up by the likes of CP3 and Kobe. Hounded by those guys plus Deron and Kidd and LeBron, Maurice Miller and D’Andre Bell would have a hard time getting the ball beyond the frontcourt, much less to the bigs. That means plenty of turnovers resulting in what would look like a NBA dunk contest. When Team USA does have to resort to a half-court offense, they’ll have enough shooting accuracy from deep (and backdoor passes) to render Tech’s zone defense futile.
I suspect 118-52 favoring Team USA as a final score, with a bigger margin of victory were the game not played with a home crowd at the Thrillerdome. Melo will lead the team in scoring and Kidd will get two points (free throws) and 20 assists. LeBron may try get a double-double in steals and blocks alone. Lawal and Dickey are each “allowed” to pull off a double-double, and Clinch and D’Andre Bell would get some nice fastbreak scores in garbage time, but those will be about the only highlights worth mentioning. The Jackets won’t win any particular quarter.

Donna asks…
Georgia Basketball?
When will the men’s college basketball team be allowed to play in March Maddness. And why were they ban in the first place?

The Expert answers:
They were on the fence for a NCAA bid this year until they got beat by Florida yesterday.
They had been placed on 4 year probation for rules violations in 2003, but the NCAA did not impose any bans. It was the school itself in 2003 that elected to not participate in the SEC and NCAA tourney, basically to save face. The school’s athletic department is “on notice” for 5 years and if they catch them with anymore violations then they’ll receive post-season bans by the NCAA. The basketball team lost one scholarship for each of the next three seasons, forfeited its 30 victories from the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons and lost official credit for participating in the 2002 NCAA tournament.
The actual rules violations occured under former coach Jim Harrick. Academic fraud, unethical conduct, and improper benefits were the culprit.

Donald asks…
When is the last time your favorite College Basketball teams won the Final Four or a National Title?
For me
Rutgers-1976 Final Four, never won a title
North Carolina- 2009 National Champion/Final Four
Georgia Tech-2004 lost the National Championship Game to UConn in the Final Four
how about for you?
Shy Guy-that’s where my parents went to school thats why

The Expert answers:
2002 – Indiana – Lost National Championship (to Maryland)
1987 – Indiana – Won National Championship

Nancy asks…
Which NCAA division one basketball conference is the best/ toughest?
Here in Raleigh we think the ACC is the best and most difficult conference in college basketball. As seen this past year when we had 9 teams go to the NCAA tourney. We got NC State, Duke, UNC, Georgia Tech, Boston College, and more.. all of which (except Miami & Florida St.) have powerhouse potential each year. Get on your soapbox, what do you think?

The Expert answers:
I would definitely agree with you on that because 2 years ago north carolina won the championship(is it 2 or 3?).Where can you see teams with great history and tradition kill each other constantly.Like last year virginia shocked everyone by tying North Carolina for the reg. Season championship. All the teams here well almost all are basketball schools and their programs are well respected in this field.Plus the ACC is so unpredictable,Duke on a losing streak and a mediocre record last season.Clemson stole the show at the beginning of conference play by starting 17-0. This conference is very tough to play in.Their records go down because these teams beat the hell out of each other. However there is one problem though, because of the past 6 years the ACC has only been able to produce only 1 championship team.Big East and SEC has done better.A team from ACC needs to win it all next year to cement their position as the best conference.

Ruth asks…
2009 college basketball recruiting, where are these guys going to end up?
John Wall- #1 on Rivals 150, I see it coming down to Kentucky and Memphis. I dont think he will attend Memphis because of the huge lack of talent in the CUSA and Kentucky is on the rise.
Derrick Favors- Heard he was also considering Kentucky and Georgia Tech. Not sure where he goes.
Thoughts?

The Expert answers:
I think wall will likely go to nc state. Hes from raleigh and his mom loves sidney lowe and he has said state is recruiting him hard.
Nc state is also a favorite for derrick favors. I see him going to kentucky though because he likes how he fits in with that program

How do I get sand out of a old basketball goal base?
This kind of basketball goal base has the hole at the end.

The Expert answers:
You can try shaking it so that the sand will accumulate towards the bottom area near the hole, and then use an industrial strength vacuum to get the sand out. Or, you can try to repeatedly fill it with water and then drain it but with that method, it will be difficult to get all of the sand out as it will stick to the sides when you drain it.

John asks…

I’m a 6’1″-6’2″ white guy. I recently started playing basketball a lot again, and I love dunking when we are playing on lower heights. I can’t seem to get near the goal to dunk on 10. What can I do to improve this?

The Expert answers:
Do squats with heavy weights…
Try air alert 3, jumpsoles, vjb, jump manual
jumprope. Run up a BIG hill on you tip tops.
It worked for me. Im a girl im not dunking but im grabbing rim
im 5″9. I did it for 10 months.
And if it do work for you and your dunking. Dotn just stop
you have to keep on training your legs..

Mary asks…
how do i remove sand from a portable basketball goal base?
we need to move our portable basketball goal. we filled the base with sand so it is impossible to move it because it is way too heavy. any suggestions on removing the sand so you can relocate it?

The Expert answers:
Try a shop vac. Be sure to empty it often. This will only work on dry sand – not wet packed sand.
If it is already wet, try putting a garden hose in it to flush out the sand.
If not moving very far, try a dolly under the goal for lifting/moving purposes.

even if you dont like them i waqnt to know what your opinions are.
i think they are underrated with jack mcclinton and they will be a 2 or 3 seed

The Expert answers:
Miami isn’t good enough to be a 2 or 3 seed because of their mediocre defense and lack of a real inside presence. But Miami is good and the 4th best team in the ACC so I give them a 5 seed.

When making selections in the NCAA tournament basketball bracket, whats the most important stat of a team?
What I look at is their guards. I think the better the guards the better team. I also like experience.
Anyone got any good websites that is great for filling out college basketball brackets?

The Expert answers:
I’d say rebounding. It’s the only thing you do on both ends of the court and it does 2 things:
1. Maximizes your team’s opportunities.
2. Minimizes your opponent’s opportunities.
Also, Pat Sumitt (Tennessee Lady Volunteers Coach, 8 time National Champion, including 2008) says..
“Offense sells tickets, defense wins games, rebounding wins championships.”
